Mitchell Double Voter Sentenced

A 54 year old Platte man avoided prison but has lost voting privileges. Judge Tim Bjorkman issued a suspended execution of sentence Tuesday to Craig Guymon who earlier pleaded guilty to voting twice in the June 4^th school board election in Mitchell.  Guymon told the court he made one of the most foolish decisions of his life. He blamed it on frustration regarding a number of issues. Guymon added there was definitely a better way to express his concerns.  Guymon’s attorney Ron Volesky asked for a suspended imposition of sentence saying that his client has already suffered enough with public ridicule.  Judge Tim Bjorkman told Guymon that his actions on June 4th damaged the democratic principal of the right to choose.  Bjorkman sentenced Guymon to 180 days in jail and suspended 150, placed him on two years probation during which time his voting privileges are suspended. He’s also required to pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs and restitution. Guymon may apply for a suspended imposition of sentence toward the end of his probation period.
