Severe Storms Tear Trees Up; Take Down Trucks

Many Huron residents found themselves at the yard waste drop site off Friday evening, leaving deposits of leaves and branches following severe storms, with tornadoes and nearly 90 mile per hour winds. The howling gusts damaged a main transmission line for Northwestern Energy. Spokesman Tom Glanzer says some locations south of Huron could be in for an extended outage….

At least two semi-trucks in rural Beadle County were blown over by winds that reached 87 miles an hour at the Huron Regional Airport. A semi was also knocked over near Wal-Mart on South Highway 37. Moeding received reports from spotters of tornadoes two to three miles south of the Dakota Provisions Turkey plant, south of Cavour and near Iroquois. The Running’s Store in Huron was evacuated because of a natural gas smell. The storm knocked an HVAC unit from it’s perch causing a small gas line to break. The leak was repaired and no one was injured.
