Aberdeen Tackling Texting While Driving

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) – The Aberdeen City Council has given initial approval to a ban on texting while driving.  Final approval could come on July 1. Aberdeen would join Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Watertown, Brookings, Vermillion and Huron in passing bans.  The South Dakota Legislature has rejected proposals for a statewide ban, leaving cities to decide the matter for themselves.  If the Aberdeen ban is approved, a violation would be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $120.
