The South Dakota Agriculture Department is developing proposed rules governing human consumption of bottled raw milk. Ag Department’s General Counsel and Division Director Courtney De La Rosa says they’re combining a number of scattered regulations into one inclusive rule rather than putting together new regulations.
De La Rosa says their proposal does not outlaw sales of raw milk but enhances consumer protection.
The Ag department held a public hearing last week in Pierre to take oral comments on the proposed rule. Written comments are still being accepted up until 5pm Monday June 17.
