Charles Beeney, the 45 year-old Kansas man who escaped from the Beadle County Jail in January was sentenced Friday.  The sentencing was unique in that the Beeney had a change of plea hearing and sentencing on the same day. Beeney was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, escape and grand theft. He was also facing habitual offender information, that would have extended any prison time to life.   Beeney pleaded guilty to one of the aggravated assault charges and escape.  The remaining charges were dropped.  David Wheeler pleaded with Foley to consider sentencing Beeney to less than the maximum….

Beeney told Foley he only has an eighth grade education, and surprised Foley with how well he wrote and how well he spoke. Foley wished Beeney well as three members of the Beadle County Sheriff’s Department escorted Beeney from the courtroom.
