Mid-week Busy For Huron Police

Following a busy Tuesday for the Huron Police Department, that included six arrests on drug and sex crime charges, the department was busy Wednesday as well. Eighteen year-old Austin Allen Burns of Huron was arrested on two counts of solicitation of a minor, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Burns’ arrest followed an investigation based on  information brought to the attention of the Huron P-D’s school resource officer. It is illegal in South Dakota for anyone over 18 years of age in solicit a minor to engage in a prohibited sexual act. Burns was out on bond at the time of his arrest following an April felony arrest for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Solicitation of minor is a Class 4 felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a 20-thousand dollar fine. Meanwhile police are asking of the public’s help in solving a burglary. Someone broke into the back warehouse area of G-C-R Tire between 5:30 P-M Wednesday and 7:30 A-M Thursday. Investigators believe someone forced their way into the warehouse and used a hand cart to remove a large purple steel safe from the business and loaded it into an unknown vehicle. Anyone with information on the break-in is asked to call the Huron Area Crimestoppers line at 353-85-55. Callers can remain anonymous and may be offered a reward for information leading to an arrest.
