Jersey Avenue will be closed today from Third street to Highway 14, but this time in the name of flood prevention. Mayor Dave McGirr says city crews will place dirt across Jersey to connect the current James River dike to a new dike being constructed to prevent floodwater from filling the municipal pool parking lot. McGirr says a temporary road surface will be placed on the dike and Jersey will be paved over next year. City crews hope to have the dike connection in place and Jersey re-opened to traffic at the end of the day today.
