Huron Making Push For National Junior High Finals Rodeo

Woolridge also made the same request of the Beadle County Commission, which also agreed to help haul and bring in dirt for multiple rodeo arenas needed for the event. She told the Huron City Commission Monday night the event is the second largest rodeo in the world….

State Fair Manger Jerome Hertel says the dirt work needed will be the events biggest hurdle. He estimates nearly 35-hundred yards of dirt will be needed to make up two rodeo arenas in the State Fair Grandstand. The arenas being 150 feet by 250 feet. Woolridge says the State Fair’s camping availability will help in boosting lodging requirement, as lodging and restaurants may be other areas of concern as officials with the rodeo begin their evaluations of Huron…

Huron is one of the small communities to take a swing at landing the event. This year’s National Junior High Finals Rodeo is being held in Gallup, New Mexico, followed by Des Monies, Iowa. The dates are June 20th to July 4th of 2016 and June19th to July 3rd of 2017. Huron and Beadle County have worked together before in preparing the State Fairgrounds in 2001 for the South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo.
