Drug Dog Purchase Approved By City

The Huron Police Department’s drug detection K-9 program is another step closer to a reality. The Huron City Commission approved Mayor David McGirr to sign an agreement with Kasseburg Canine Training Center of New Market, Alabama. The dog itself will cost approximately six-thousand dollars, on top of other costs associated with the program. The Kasseburg Canine Training Center has been used by the Watertown and Rapid City Police Department and South Dakota Highway Patrol when implementing their drug dog programs. All start-up costs for a K-9 program have been raised. A significant portion of that funding was raised during fundraising events held by last year’s Leadership Huron class. The dog to be purchased will be between 10 and 24 months old.
