Jury Selection Kicks Off Werner Fajardo Rape Trial

Nearly ten months after his arrest on 15 charges ranging from rape to other sex crimes and alcohol violations, Werner Fajardo is getting his day in court. Jury Selection begins today in Fajardos three-day trial. Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore says approximately 100 people have been called for possible jury duty in the case. He says they will be broken up in to a morning and afternoon session with about 50 people in each. The jury should be in place by the end of the day…

Moore says he has around 13 to 14 witnesses line up to testify in the case. Fajardo was arrested in late October of last year following an investigation into reports of illegal activity taking place in the now-closed El Cuervo Bar and Dance Hall. Fajardo was arrested, but posted bond and was released from jail. A week after his first arrest the Sioux Falls man was arrested again, this time on because minors were caught drinking alcohol in his club. Fajardo has been in jail ever since
