Economy Cited In Pepsi Closure

In response to a story broke exclusively on Performance Radio, Wednesday, the parent company of the soon-to-be closed Pepsi bottling plant in Huron has explained why the facility is closing. Wis-Pak Senior Vice President of Supply Operations John Uttech says while they value the efforts of the Huron staff over the years, rising commodity and fuel costs have forced the company to look at all aspects of it’s supply chain. He says small production facilities like Huron struggle to be viable in today’s beverage industry. Ten full-time employees will be released in the move and Wis-Pak says it is assisting the employees with outreach and placement advice, including the offer of employment at other production facilities as available. No changes are planned for the Mitchell/Chamberlain organization. Some of the affected employees have been with Pepsi over 35 years, since they had the jobs since high school
