Ground Broke In Redfield For Seed Plant

Anderson Seed’s of Mentor, Minnesota is expanding its business to South Dakota. Governor Mike Rounds announced that Anderson has broken ground on a $ 3 million sunflower processing and de-hulling plant in Spink County. Company General Manager Stephenie Anderson says much of their business will be used for bird food.

Anderson says the Redfield area in South Dakota was chosen mainly because of its accessibility to sunflowers, rail service and roads.

Anderson says they hope to open their sunflower receiving facility this fall and their de-hulling plant by Christmas of this year. Anderson Seeds which is headquartered in Mentor, Minnesota also has two facilities in North Dakota and owns St. Hilaire Seed company in St. Hilaire, Minnesota.
