HURON, S.D. (AP) – The Huron School District has been paying a former superintendent nearly $11,000 per month since his resignation about a year ago. The reason is not clear. School District Business Manager Kelly Christopherson has confirmed the payments to Ross Opsal. In addition to paying Opsal more than $120,000, the district also has paid current Superintendent Terry Nebelsick more than $64,000 since he assumed the job full-time last July. Opsal resigned last March 7, citing health reasons. School district officials are refusing to release a sealed agreement with him, saying it is a personnel issue. Calls by The Associated Press to a telephone listing for Opsal in Huron were not answered Wednesday.
