The eighth annual South Dakota Timed Event Championship (SDTEC) sponsored in part by Panhandle Slim and Double D Western will be held Sept. 1 and 2 in Huron at the South Dakota State Fair.
The area’s elite youth rodeo contestants will compete in six timed events, including tie-down calf roping, barrel racing, team roping, goat tying, breakaway roping and steer wrestling. Any rodeo youth from across the country, ages 14 – 19, is eligible to compete for the title.
“We’ve been nothing but impressed by the quality of competition and the level of fan support,” said Jason Edleman with SDTEC. “This is a tremendous opportunity to share our state’s official sports event with those at one of the state’s largest venues, the State Fair!”
The overall winner takes home the coveted title of SD Timed Event Champion, along with a cash award. Event winners receive trophy saddles.
The SDTEC continues to bring in contestants, their families and fans to the State Fair, making it one of the premier events for spectators at the fair.
“This is the only youth rodeo at the State Fair and the only one of its type in the Midwest,” says Edleman with SDTEC. “Contestants and fans travel from across the state and the nation to be at the SD Timed Event Championship. Since its inception, we have had contestants from Minnesota, North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Texas compete.”
Last year’s Timed Event Champion was Winston Brown of Piedmont, SD.
