The South Dakota State 4H Beef Association is adding a Miniature Heifer division to the 4H breeding beef show for the 2016 State Fair. State 4H Beef Committee member and SDSU Extension 4H Youth program advisor John Madison says miniature heifer shows have become popular across the country and that helped lead to their decision to add the show.
He says showing miniature heifers should be valuable for 4Hers, especially the younger members.
Madison says next year’s show will involve all breeds of miniature heifers being shown together.
To qualify for the miniature division, heifers must meet the standard requirements for all 4H breeding heifers and be registered in accordance to the rules and regulations of a national miniature cattle breed association.
