SIOUX FALLS, SD – The heavy lifting is done at the Crow Lake wind farm north of White Lake. Basin Electric Power Cooperative says the last of 108 turbines was put in place this week. After some testing, the entire wind farm should be operational by late February. Construction on the $363 million project began last October. A Basin Electric subsidiary owns and operates 101 of the turbines. Mitchell Technical Institute owns one that it uses in its wind turbine Program. Seven others are owned by a public investor group. Basin Electric says it will be the largest wind project in the United States that’s owned solely by a cooperative.
