CTE BUILDING TRADES ADDITION NEARING COMPLETION

The addition to the Huron School district CTE builing with the building trades expansion is nearly complete.  A familiar site each year is the building trades home constructed each year from a submitted bid.  While this years home is has some work before it is completed, the building trades program will take the project indoors this fall.  Building trades instructor for the Huron School District Matt Busch said the addition will offer many benefits.

With many modular homes constructed indoors the CTE addition offers initial education for the field, Busch said the biggest benefit will be teaching in a controlled environment.

The building trades addition cost $2.4 million.  The district received a workforce education grant from the SD Department of Education in the amount of $225 thousand dollars. Corona virus response and relief supplemental appropriations act and Elementary and Secondary School Emergency relied funds (ESSER 2) in the amount of $1.8 million dollars were utilized.  Busch said the enclosed facility is part of a growing trend.

He said the Huron CTE building trades plans were able to adapt from other centers.

Busch said they anticipate more enrollment in the program.

The rest of the project is funded by local tax dollars in the capital outlay fund.  The Huron School District is planning an open house later this Summer for the public.
